Congratulations to our very own beloved 4th grade teacher Carolyn Harlow, one of six Virginia teachers selected as a state finalist for the 2016 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
The award — regarded as the nation’s top honor for mathematics and science teachers — recognizes teachers who develop and implement high-quality instructional programs that improve student learning.

CHES Teachers head out to help Haiti

CHES Teachers had an incredible active learning seminar with the children and teachers at all Christianville schools in Haiti!  Our Teachers worked hard with the teachers and students at Christianville schools to complete Active Learning Strategies and Teacher Development workshop to help better the education of the students in Haiti.  Clover Hill teachers and families helped provide much needed school supplies for these workshops and students.  Our CHES teachers had such a blast enriching the lives of these wonderful students!

Papa John’s Teacher Delivery Night Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Clover Hill Elementary Teacher Delivery Night!  It was a lot of fun and a big success!  Thanks to all the parents who ordered, the teachers who delivered, and the school administration and PTA for supporting their efforts!  The students had a great time anticipating which of their teachers would show up at their door and enjoyed dinner from Papa John’s!

And the final results are…drum roll please…

PTA Bylaw Revision Information

Current bylaws are required to be a PTA/PTSA in good standing status. Virginia PTA requires bylaws revision and approval every five years, and our CHES PTA bylaws are due for revision by January 2016. Our bylaws committee has revised our CHES PTA bylaws according to the Virginia PTA bylaws template; Articles, Sections, and Subsections marked with a pound sign (#) are mandatory inclusions that cannot be altered beyond specific fields such as Name, Location, Dates, and other limited fields outlined in the provided template. Per the requirement of the Virginia PTA, these revised bylaws, existing bylaws, rationale, and general membership meeting date are submitted for review by our CHES PTA general membership for at least thirty (30) days prior to the vote to approve them. Please direct comments or questions to Sara Gilliam, Bylaws Committee Chair, at sara.gilliam@gmail.com.

School Calendar Update!

Anticipating an unusually high turnout for the 2016 presidential primaries, the Chesterfield Electoral Board has requested that Chesterfield County Public Schools be closed to students on March 1, 2016.

The School Board and school division leadership team agree that the teaching-and-learning process could be negatively impacted at the nearly 50 schools used as polling precincts. With polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and with the potential of 40,000 visitors in schools, we have agreed to cancel school for students that day. A teacher workday will be held instead.

To make up for the lost instructional time, the three-hour early release days previously scheduled for Jan. 27, 2016, and Feb. 24, 2016, will be eliminated. These days will be full instructional days for teachers and students.

Want a Watch DOGS License Plate?

Watch-DOGS
WatchDOGSplate(with-website)

I am pleased to announce that Virginia State Senator Janet Howell and Delegate Ken Plum have agreed to co-sponsor a bill in the Virginia General Assembly supporting the development of a Virginia Special License Plate for WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students). Click here to view a copy of their letters of support.

Currently there are over 280 WATCHD.O.G.S. programs in Virginia enabling thousands of Fathers and Father figures to volunteer for at least a full day at their children’s schools each year. It’s an incredible program that is not only rewarding for Dads but great for kid’s and their schools. The goal is to create a Virginia license plate which proudly recognizes WATCHD.O.G.S Dads statewide.

In order to get the bill passed in the 2016 Virginia General Assembly and ultimately signed by Governor McAuliffe. We need to collect 450 applications for the plates prior to December 31, 2015. You can be one of the “Founding 450” of this special initiative and become one of the first Dads in the state to receive the new plates for your car, truck or motorcycle.

Want to be a part of history? It all starts here! Fill out this WATCH D.O.G.S License Plate Form to get your name on the list. We will follow up with you regarding DMV application submission and payment of the $10 DMV fee.

Thank you very much for your support!

Sincerely,

Michael N. Cachine, Sr.
